History

University of the Cordilleras Grade School and High School (formerly University of the Cordilleras Laboratory School and Baguio Colleges Foundation) is a non-stock, non-profit private educational institution. A PACUCOA ACCREDITED (LEVEL II) academic community and Education Service Contracting (ESC) participating school; it offers non-sectarian training in different educational fields: high school, grade school, and pre-school education. It is composed of human, financial, physical, and informational resources all aimed at achieving professional competence, providing relevant, responsive, and responsible education to everyone who seeks it, regardless of race, economic standing or religion.

The school believes in holistic development of its students and that education should be accessible to all. It aims to attain the education of a fully integrated human being. Its thrust in relevant, responsive, and responsible teaching incorporates English and Filipino proficiency, ability to communicate effectively, technological competence, values education, and building of entrepreneurial skills. Development of the learner's talents and capabilities, values and skills is geared toward his/her role as active agent of societal development.

The Grade School Department opened its doors in 1946. It was then Education Secretary Prudencio Langcauon who signed its Government Recognition (number 480, series 1949-1950) to operate as a school. The School Principals in succession are:

The Grade School has maintained its tradition of academic excellence by receiving several recognitions. On April 27, 1987, Education, Culture and Sports Minister Lourdes R. Quisumbing signed School's Government Recognition (number E-011, series 1987) to operate the Pre-Elementary Course (Nursery and Kindergarten). The Pre-school is under the Grade School Department. At present, UC Grade School continues to hold high the torch as one of the best schools in the region.

The UC High School opened its doors in 1947 with a population of 100 at Lopez building under Mrs. Emilia San Juan as Principal. The school population rose since then. On July 1, 1949 then, Minister of Education Prudencio Langcauon signed the School's Government Recognition to operate as a day school with complete academic secondary course under Republic Act 2706, later amended by Commonwealth Act No. 180 and Republic Act No. 74.

In the 1970's, the school provided education to working and military personnel, by opening an evening class. This provided more opportunities for those seeking to pursue secondary education.

The growing student populace and the need for more space led to the construction of the Campo Filipino Campus along Hamada Road. The building accommodated both the high school and some college subjects. When the buildings at the Harrison campus were finally completed, the Grade School and High School Departments became a Laboratory School for BSEd and BEEd students from UC College of Teacher Education.

With the granting of UC's University Status on November 22, 2003, the Grade School and High School face the challenge of maintaining quality education through the years by always emerging among the top performing schools in the region.

With the opening of the Senior High School in S.Y.2016-2017, the basic education of the University has Grade School, Junior High School and Senior High School programs. The Senior High School is housed at the Governor Pack Road main campus and is under the supervision of an Academic Director.

On October 27, 2016, the Grade School and Junior High School Campus was renamed as Campo Libertad in honor of Dr. Libertad D. Quetulio who was once an Executive Dean and Trustee of Baguio Colleges from 1946 to 1966 and Baguio Colleges Foundation from 1966 to 1969.

Mission:

To provide learners with quality and relevant basic education that will ensure fundamental knowledge, skills, values, and experiences

Grade School and Junior High School aim to:

1. provide learning experiences for the total development of the learners;
2. develop students' creativity, critical thinking and problem solving skills;
3. foster awareness, respect, appreciation and responsibility towards one's culture and nation;
4. promote deeper sense of moral and spiritual values;
5. periodically update curriculum to keep abreast of change;
6. produce researches to improve the teaching-learning process; and
7. provide assistance to the community through outreach and extension programs

The Grade School and Junior High School shall be guided by the following core values:
